Features

Does Even More. Weighs Even Less.

The new iPad Air is unbelievably thin and light. And yet it’s so much more powerful and capable. With the A7 chip, advanced wireless, and great apps for productivity and creativity — all beautifully integrated with iOS 7 — iPad Air lets you do more than you ever imagined. In more places than you ever imagined.

All- new Design Leaner. And Definitely Meaner.

iPad Air is impossibly thin but incredibly solid thanks to its aluminum unibody design. It dropped almost a quarter of the volume of the previous-generation iPad. So it weighs just one gravity-defying pound. But what makes iPad Air truly remarkable is that it packs so much more power and capability into its sleek enclosure. So you can do even more with it, while carrying even less with you.

Retina Display So Much To see. So Little To Hold

iPad has always been about the display. And that’s even more true with iPad Air. Because we reduced the width of the device, along with the bezels on the sides of the display. But the size of the stunning Retina display is exactly the same. So your content fills your view more than ever. With a 2048-by-1536 resolution and over 3.1 million pixels, photos and videos pop with detail and text looks razor sharp. Pixels are indiscernible. So all you see is what you want to see.

Incredible Performance It's Light On Everything But Power.

The new Apple-designed A7 chip brings 64-bit desktop-class architecture to iPad. That means up to twice the CPU speed and graphics performance for everything you do. And still up to 10 hours of battery life to study, play, build, and create whatever you want, all you want.

A7 Chip

The A7 chip takes iPad to new heights of power and speed. Thanks to the A7 chip, apps run faster. Games are more responsive. And everything you do with iPad Air feels quicker, because it is quicker. Up to twice as quick, in fact. But that’s just the beginning. It also supports OpenGL ES version 3.0, enabling detailed graphics and visual effects once possible only on desktop computers and game consoles. And the A7 chip features 64-bit architecture, opening the door for even more robust and powerful apps. Which means even more possibilities for what you can do with iPad Air.

M7 Coprocessor

iPad Air was designed to be on the move. That’s why the M7 coprocessor makes so much sense. It measures motion from your iPad Air by pulling data from the accelerometer, gyroscope, and compass. So your apps can give you a better experience based on the movement of your iPad Air. It’s a task that would normally fall to the A7 chip. But M7 is more efficient at it, which saves on power.

Same Great Battery Life

iPad Air is powerful, but not power hungry. Even though it’s 20 percent thinner and up to twice as fast as the previous-generation iPad, it still gives you the same incredible 10-hour battery life.1 That’s because the A7 chip isn’t just more powerful, it’s also more efficient. So no matter where you go with iPad Air, you’ll have the battery power to go even further.

Advanced Wireless Make Better Connections Wherever You Go.

Your new favorite app, book, or movie. Your next FaceTime call or iMessage. Ultrafast wireless lets you access the things you love, right from iPad Air. So more than ever, you can stay in sync and in touch.

Ultrafast Wi-Fi

iPad Air gives you up to twice the Wi-Fi performance thanks to two antennas and MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) technology. With dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) 802.11n Wi-Fi and MIMO, download speeds can reach up to 300 Mbps — double the data rate of the previous-generation iPad. So now when you want to download a movie, share photos or documents with AirDrop, or just browse the web, your connection is even faster than before.

More LTE Bands

iPad Air with Wi-Fi + Cellular lets you connect to the Internet even if you’re away from a Wi-Fi signal. iPad Air supports even more LTE bands to connect to more cellular data networks around the world.2 Now you can get online at really fast speeds — faster than broadband in some cases — in more places. And plans are flexible, so you don’t have to sign a contract. Some plans even let you share data across multiple devices.

Great Apps Included Comes Ready To Work. And Play.

iPad Air is the perfect everyday companion. Because it comes with apps that help you do the everyday things you love to do, like check your email, talk to Mom over FaceTime, or consult Siri to settle a bet. And now iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are free with iPad Air.3 So you can write the next great novel, nail your presentation, and compose a score for your home movie — all from your iPad Air. And all these apps are optimized for 64-bit architecture. So they run smoothly and powerfully, and make iPad Air — and you — more capable than ever. From the moment you turn it on.

IPhoto

Keynote makes it all possible — and portable.

App Store Over 475,000 Adventures Await.

Plan a road trip. Study whale migration. Draw blueprints for a building. Or repel a zombie invasion. For anything and everything you do, there’s an iPad app. And new ones are always being added in the App Store. iPad apps are so much easier to use and love because they aren’t just stretched-out phone apps. They feel like they’re made for iPad — because they are made for iPad. They take advantage of every pixel on the Retina display and leverage technologies like the gyroscope, accelerometer, and compass. And with the incredible potential of 64-bit architecture, this is just the beginning for what you’ll be able to do (and explore, and study, and draw, and zap) with iPad Air.

FaceTime And Isight Cameras A Few More Reasons To Smile.

FaceTime HD Camera

Sometimes it’s nice to put a face to the conversation. And with FaceTime video calls on iPad Air, your conversations never looked better. Make a video call over Wi-Fi or cellular and see (or show) every expression on the beautiful display.4 And now the FaceTime HD camera features a next-generation backside illumination sensor with larger pixels. Which brightens up all your FaceTime chats, selfies, and group Photo Booth shots, even in low-light situations.

5MP Isight Camera

We think about what goes into a great shot, so you don’t have to. The 5-megapixel iSight camera on iPad Air was designed to help you capture all of life’s moments at a moment’s notice. Use the Retina display as an easy viewfinder to frame the perfect shot. And quickly swipe between capturing stills or 1080p HD video. Every time you shoot, the image signal processor in the A7 chip works with the camera to make a ton of adjustments and deliver a great picture or video — automatically. You don’t have to think about anything other than who you’re going to share the moment with.

Dual microphones

iPad Air hears where you’re coming from. That’s because it has two microphones. And they don’t just collect more sound — they work together to capture better sound by suppressing audio from the source you’re not focused on. So the audio on FaceTime calls is improved because there’s less background noise. Your video recordings sound clearer. And Siri is even better at recognizing what you’re saying.

Ipad Air And IOS7 Designed To Bring Out The Best In Each Other.

Because iOS 7 was designed for iPad Air, everything not only looks beautiful, it runs beautifully. And iOS 7 introduces great new features, such as smarter multitasking, AirDrop, and Control Center, that make the things you do every day even easier, faster, and more enjoyable. It’s everything you love about iOS. Made even easier to love.

ICloud Everything You Need. Anywhere You Need It.

iCloud keeps all your content synced across all your devices — automatically. It’s seamlessly integrated with your devices, so you can start a Pages document on your Mac and finish polishing it on your iPad Air. The pictures you shoot with your iPhone appear instantly on iPad Air thanks to iCloud Photo Sharing. Or start watching a movie on iPad Air on the train and pick up right where you left off at home on your Apple TV.

AirPlay, AirPrint, And AirDrop Share Over The Air. Right From Your IPad.

AirPlay

Stream via AirPlay

Go from the small screen to the big one with AirPlay. You can wirelessly stream movies from iTunes and all the great stuff on your iPad Air to your HDTV via Apple TV. Turn on AirPlay Mirroring and show photos from your road trip, blast aliens with your friends, or give a class presentation. You can even play DJ by streaming playlists from your iPad Air to AirPlay-enabled speakers over Wi-Fi.

AirPrint

Print via AirPrint

If you have to print something, you can do it right from iPad Air. Print to any AirPrint-enabled printer over Wi-Fi. There are no cables to connect or drivers to download. Just tap the Print icon in AirPrint-compatible apps like Mail, Safari, Pages, Keynote, Numbers, iBooks, and iPhoto. And just like that, what’s on your iPad Air becomes the printed page.

AirDrop

AirDrop is a simple way to share content on your iPad Air. You can quickly send photos, videos, contacts, and more to any iOS 7 user nearby. There’s no setup required and no email addresses or phone numbers to store. Just tap the Share button, see who appears on your display, then choose who you want to send to. If someone sends you something via AirDrop, just click Accept when a notification appears on your iPad Air. AirDrop automatically creates a secure connection using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and delivers content right away.

IPad Air Smart Cover and Smart Case We've got it all covered.

IPad Air Smart Cover

Protecting your iPad has never looked smarter. Because the Smart Cover has been redesigned to accentuate the incredibly thin profile of iPad Air. When closed, the Smart Cover puts iPad Air to sleep and protects the screen. When you open the Smart Cover, iPad Air wakes right up. Fold it, and you’ve got a stand. And now it comes in six vibrant colors.

IPad Air Smart Case

For all-around protection, the Smart Case has your iPad Air covered — front and back. The Smart Case has been redesigned with a slim new profile that perfectly fits iPad Air. The rich, premium leather feels luxurious in your hand. It comes in six beautiful shades to add a little color. And just like the Smart Cover, the Smart Case wakes and sleeps iPad Air on open and close and folds into a convenient stand.

There’s already so much you can do with iPad Air. And accessories can help you do even more.

AppleCare+ Protection For Your IPad Air. Peace Of Mind For You.

Every iPad comes with one year of hardware repair coverage through its limited warranty and up to 90 days of complimentary support. AppleCare+ for iPad extends your coverage to two years from the original purchase date of your iPad and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage, each subject to a $49 service fee plus applicable tax.

Design

Before We Thought about what Goes Into It, We Thought About What You'll Get Out Of It.

Over the past three years, we've been inspired by stories of how iPad has transformed the way people play, work, learn, create, and connect. So when we designed iPad Air, we started by thinking about its purpose. How you'll hold it, what you'll do with it, where you'll take it. And we built on the idea that iPad is defined by how people use it. iPad Air is far more powerful and capable, and yet it's even thinner and even more unobtrusive. So it can do whatever you want it to do. And be whatever you want it to be.

Sometimes The Best Design is The One You Hardly Notice.

We believe that your content should be the focus of your experience. And everything else should disappear. Even the device itself.

The Most Amazing Thing About Holding It Is That You Forget You're Holding It.

iPad Air is astonishingly thin and light. Through a series of refinements, we were able to drop close to a quarter of the volume of the previous-generation iPad. Yet from the moment you pick it up, you’ll notice how durable it feels. Elegant unibody construction strengthens and simplifies the enclosure. We took everything we’ve learned about making unibody devices and refined the process to be even more material-efficient and exact. The result is an iPad Air that feels amazing to hold and is easy to take with you wherever you go.

A 24 Percent Reduction In Overall Volume

We shaved fractions of millimeters off many components. By reducing their thickness, we were able to make iPad Air far thinner and lighter.

What You Don't See Is Just As Important As What You Do.

More than ever, all eyes are on the stunning Retina display. iPad Air has thinner bezels on the sides of the display and a narrower width overall. But the size of the display stayed the same. It’s a subtle change, but it makes a dramatic difference. You see it the moment the screen comes to life. The beautiful display is more prominent than ever. And your attention is on what matters: your content.

The software also works intelligently with the new display. Using a touch-rejection algorithm, iPad Air recognizes if your thumb is simply resting on the display while you’re holding it or if you’re intentionally interacting with the Multi-Touch screen. It's a great example of how Apple hardware and software are designed to work together to give you the best experience possible.

Twice The Power In Even Less Space Shouldn't Add Up. And Yet It Does.

The way iPad Air feels in your hand is remarkable. But just as remarkable is the way it performs. Even though iPad Air is so thin and light, we managed to pack an incredible amount of power and technology inside.

It All Starts With The New A7 Chip.

The new A7 chip rips. It’s the most powerful chip we’ve built to date — and the most efficient. A7 brings 64-bit desktop-class architecture to iPad, which means iPad Air speaks the language of the most advanced computing designs available. The A7 chip makes iPad Air up to 2x faster than the previous generation in both CPU and graphics performance. So it delivers incredible power and performance in a one-pound device.

There’s a reason we design our own chips. We can decide which functions we want a chip to perform and build them right into the individual circuits and components. This creates more efficient power usage, which allows our devices to be so thin and light yet have great battery life. It’s one of the advantages of designing both the hardware and the software. Because the only way you can build a product this thin and powerful is by investing in and caring about the primary components used to make it.

M7 Provides A Little Help. And A Lot Of Efficiency.

The M7 motion coprocessor is another reason why iPad Air can be so powerful yet power efficient. We designed M7 to measure the motion of iPad Air by collecting data from the gyroscope, accelerometer, and compass. It offloads work from the A7 chip, gathering motion information from iPad Air so apps can adapt their functions. Because M7 was engineered for this specific task, it uses less power than A7 would require. And it frees up A7 to focus on other tasks. The result is not only a better iPad experience, but great battery life.

And Loads More Technology Lies Within.

The 7.5-mm-thin enclosure of iPad Air is filled to the brim with advanced technologies that help give you an even better experience. iPad Air is designed to be on the go, so it has two antennas to support MIMO (multiple input multiple output) for up to twice the 802.11n Wi-Fi performance. And the Wi-Fi + Cellular model has more LTE bands and supports more networks around the world — so iPad Air can keep you connected in more places.1 It also features a 5-megapixel iSight camera and a FaceTime HD camera with an improved sensor for better video calls.2 And dual microphones improve audio and suppress background noise for video recording, FaceTime calls, and voice recognition when using Siri. All this technology fits within a sleek frame that’s light and easy to hold.

Hardware And Software That Were Made For Each Other.

iOS 7 and iPad Air weren’t just designed to work well, they were designed to work well together. So the experience of using them together is seamless. Like iPad Air, everything about iOS 7 is simple and incredibly intuitive.

And iOS 7 on iPad Air was optimized to include thoughtful choices that take advantage of the iPad experience. For example, the Control Center panel is in an easy-to-read horizontal orientation. In the Camera app, the shutter button appears on the side of the screen rather than at the bottom — because that’s where your thumb is when you’re holding iPad. All these small considerations make iOS 7 not just beautiful to see, but beautiful to experience.

One Bright Idea Deserves Another.

When you have a device as thin and light as iPad Air, you don’t want to put something on it that adds bulk. So we designed the iPad Air Smart Cover and Smart Case to fit and protect iPad Air perfectly. They’re crafted with as much precision and care as iPad Air itself.

Smart Cover

The Smart Cover is constructed from a single piece of polyurethane and features a sleek new covered hinge that custom fits the thin profile of iPad Air. It comes in six vibrant colors. And it doesn’t just protect iPad Air. The Smart Cover actually wakes iPad Air when opened and puts it to sleep on close. The Smart Cover also folds into different positions to create a stand for reading, viewing, typing, or making FaceTime calls. And it’s easily removable, so you can snap it on and off whenever you want.

Smart Case

The Smart Case is the most streamlined way to protect iPad Air, front and back. It comes in six rich shades of beautiful aniline-dyed leather for a pop of color, and it feels great in your hand. And it’s been redesigned with an even slimmer profile. The Smart Case wakes iPad Air when opened and puts it to sleep on close. And like the Smart Cover, it folds to create a stand, so you can position iPad Air for whatever you want to do.

Designed To Have A Big Impact On The World. Not The Environment.

At Apple, we’re always thinking about the impact our products have on the world. And we know that impact continues after the end of a product’s useful life. That’s why nearly every Apple product is made from highly recyclable materials like aluminum, and why we go to great lengths to exclude harmful toxins from our components.

iPad Air is a perfect example. The aluminum enclosure is highly recyclable. And every iPad Air is free of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). In fact, Apple has one of the strictest BFR-free and PVC-free standards in the industry. And we expect the same from our suppliers. So we actually disassemble our products into individual components and materials in our Cupertino lab. Then we test those components using a variety of methods, including X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy and ion chromatography. We do this to ensure that every product we release meets our environmental standards.

Built-In-Apps

One of the best things about an Ipad is everything you can do with it.

Compose your own rock ballad. Polish a presentation. Say (and wave) hello to a faraway friend. With lots of great Apple-designed apps built in, and more you can download from the App Store, there’s no limit to what you — and your iPad — can do.

Reminders

iPad never forgets, so you won’t, either. The Reminders app lets you set location- or time-based alerts for all the things you need to get done — even recurring ones. And iCloud keeps Reminders in sync on all your devices, so you can make a list on your iPad and be alerted on your iPhone.
