Product Description

The MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) compensates for the blurring caused by hand-shake. Even slight hand-shake movement is accurately detected by a sampling frequency of 4,000 times per second, and compensated to produce sharp, clear images.

In the iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode, the camera does all the work, leaving you free to compose shots and capture moments.

  • Mega O.I.S: Gyrosensors detect hand-shaking and the O.I.S. lens shifts to compensate, helping prevent blurring caused by hand-shaking.
  • Intelligent ISO Control:The Intelligent ISO Control function detects subject movement and automatically adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed to best suit the movement and light conditions.
  • Face Detection: The Face Detection function detects faces anywhere in the frame and automatically chooses the optimal focus and exposure. The Face Detection also features the Digital Red-eye Correction (Red-eye Removal).
  • Scene Detection: The Intelligent Scene Selector senses the ambient conditions and automatically selects any of the Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night Portrait*3, Night Scenery or Sunset Mode accordingly.
  • The Happy Mode: The Happy Mode optimizes color, saturation and brightness to make images more vivid and true to the color of the scene you remember.
  • Intelligent Exposure: The Intelligent Exposure corrects the brightness in parts of the image that are too dark due to insufficient lighting, backlighting or use of the flash. This produces natural images that are close to the way they actually look to the human eye.

The DMC-S5 (16.1-megapixel CCD) / S2 (14.1-megapixel CCD) features a 28mm wide-angle lens* with 4x optical zoom (35mm equivalent: 28-112mm). The 28mm wide-angle lens lets you easily capture large groups of people indoors or expansive architectural structures and scenes with dynamic width and rich perspective, even from short distances.

iA Zoom

The iA Zoom (Intelligent Zoom) is an extensive zoom function using digital zoom, however, you can even draw the subject 2x closer than the original optical zoom with minimum deterioration of image quality thanks to the Intelligent Resolution technology[Open New Window]. This means the 4x optical can virtually extend to 8x equivalent.

The DMC-S5/S2 can record motion images in high-definition (1,280 x 720 pixels in Motion JPEG format).

• QuickTime Motion JPEG. • Some lens movement sounds may be recorded. • In Motion Picture Mode, the length of recording time depends on the capacity of the SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card. (Up to the equivalent of 2 GB per motion-image recording.) • For Europe, motion images can be recorded continuously for up to 15 minutes. • Use a card with SD Speed Class* with “Class 6” or higher when recording motion images. * SD speed class is the speed standard regarding continuous writing. • SDHC Memory Cards and SDXC Memory Cards can be used only in equipment that is compatible with their respective formats. • If the computer being used does not support SDXC Memory Cards, a message prompting you to format may appear. (Doing so will cause recorded images to be erased so do not choose to format.) If the card is not recognized, please refer to the below support site.

The Panorama Shot Mode makes it is possible to shoot a horizontal / vertical panoramic image with consequent shots taken by overlaying the previous image.

The Auto Retouch function adjusts contrast and brightness to give different impression to the photo with just a press of a button. Appropriate retouch is automatically applied depending on the image – if the image was shot too dark, it can be clear and bright to look it nicer with this function.

Function are available:-

  • Sonic Speed AF: This gives the camera super high-speed response that helps to catch even the most fleeting photo opportunities.
  • 2.7-inch LCD: The large LCD serves as a small photo and video viewer, allowing you and friends to enjoy viewing images.
  • Intelligent LCD: The Intelligent LCD automatically adjusts the brightness in 11 steps according to shooting conditions.
  • 4 Aspect Ratios: In addition to 4:3, 3:2, and 16:9, you can shoot with a 1:1 aspect ratio.
  • LUMIX Image Uploader: You can upload photos to Facebook™ and videos to YouTube™ with simple operation.
  • Battery Life: The energy-saving Venus Engine and the efficient, rechargeable lithium-ion battery lets you take approx. 260 shots (S5) / 280 shots (S2) on a single battery charge*.* Based on the CIPA standard.
  • Built-in Memory 70MB: The built-in memory provides extra memory when your memory card fills up.

Features

Intelligent Resolution Technology: With the Intelligent Resolution technology, 3 areas - outlines, detailed texture areas and soft gradation areas - are automatically detected and optimum signal processes are performed to each area. Apart from the uniform enhancement of sharpness, the innovative technology Intelligent Resolution precisely performs signal processing pixel by pixel in the most effective way for it.

Still Image Recording in Video Recording: It is possible to take a still image while recording a video simultaneously. This makes sure that you don't miss those decisive moments with either photos or videos, or both.

Cut Animation: You can cut out a clear still image from a video in the camera thanks to the Intelligent Resolution technology.

Video Divide: You can divide a video into two sections to shorten on the spot in the camera. This is handy for compiling memorable scenes, or deleting unwanted scenes to free up space on your memory card.

Shooting Functions

4 Aspect Ratios

Select from 16:9, 3:2, 1:1and conventional 4:3 to shoot in the framing aspect that best suits the photo's composition or purpose of use. 1:1 unique square frame adds to your image expression possibilities. The 16:9 ratio produces images that match the aspect ratio of an HDTV screen.

Macro Zoom

You can pull subjects even closer than at the closest point possible with the wide-angle setting by using 3x digital zoom, and capture dramatic close-ups.

Response

23-area AF / 11-area AF / 9-area AF

This mode gives you a sharp focus for a variety of picture compositions.

Quick AF

Ordinary AF is activated when the shutter button is pressed half-way, while the Quick AF starts operating as soon as the camera is pointed toward a subject. This dramatically reduces the shutter delay time and lets you take images quickly.

  • The Quick AF does not work together with the AF Tracking.
  • The focus speed may be slower in dark surroundings.

Usability

Intelligent LCD: LUMIX's acclaimed Intelligent LCD function also automatically adjusts the brightness according to shooting conditions. It lets you share the fun of viewing images with family and friends, too.

Built-in Memory: You can take photos even when you don't have an SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card on hand. It provides extra memory when your memory card fills up, too.

Copy: You can later copy images from built-in memory to a memory card or computer. You can also copy images from a memory card or computer to the built-in memory, and view them on the LCD anytime you like.

Zoom Speed – 2-Step: This function allows you to control the zoom operation in 2 speeds, Low and Fast, with the zoom lever. Rotate the lever a small amount for slow zooming, and a larger amount for high-speed zooming.

Zoom Resume: The Zoom Resume function stores the zoom position (magnification) in memory, so you can shoot with the same zoom setting once the power is turned on again.

Program Shift: You can use Program Shift in Program AE Mode to keep the exposure fixed while changing the combination of shutter speed and aperture.

Manual Exposure Assist: This function shows how much your setting differs from the setting the camera considers optimal. This serves as a convenient guide for anyone using the Manual Exposure Mode.

Direct Exposure Compensation: You can retrieve the exposure compensation value and manually adjust it directly with the jog dial.

Maximum ISO Setting: The maximum sensitivity setting is applied to the Intelligent ISO Control and ISO AUTO functions. This ensures that you'll get the level of image quality you want by letting you set your own limit for ISO sensitivity.
  • The levels of sensitivity that can be set vary depending on the model.
Minimum Shutter Speed: The minimum shutter speed can be set. To prevent motion blur, select a faster shutter speed. When using a tripod for a longer exposure, select a slower shutter speed.

Focus Range Display :The allowable shooting range is displayed above the zoom bar. This lets you readjust the distance between the camera and the subject to shoot sharp, clear pictures.

Guide Line

The composition guide helps you to shoot straight horizons and architectural buildings. Some models have only one pattern.

Real-time Histogram: This graph, which can be displayed on the LCD as you line up the shot, shows the status of the exposure and contrast in real-time.

Highlight Display: When Highlight Display is turned on, over-exposed parts are indicated by a flashing display while reviewing or playing back.

World Time Setting: The World Time Setting lets you display the local time of your destination when traveling.

Travel Date Setting: By setting the departure day, return day and the trip's destination when setting out on a trip, you can display on which day of the trip each photo was taken while viewing.

LUMIX Image Uploader

You can upload images to Facebook™ (photos) and YouTube™ (videos) with simple operation. All you have to do is checkmark the photos and videos you want to share and connect the camera or SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card to a computer. Uploading automatically starts by simply following the guidance.
